AcadeMir Charter School East at Doral

“Expect Excellence”

AcadeMir Charter School East (ACSE) is a tuition free public charter school that will serve students in Kindergarten through 5th grade in the Doral Area. The mission of AcadeMir Charter School is to provide a challenging academic curriculum that encompasses a unique enriched math and science curriculum that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) project-based learning program. Our goal is to develop students into critical thinkers by providing them with hands-on learning experiences that will enable all students to achieve academic success and become lifelong learners.
As a School of choice, ACSE believes its academic focus appeals to those students and parents interested in a well-rounded elementary school education, a challenging program focused on mathematics and science using innovative reform based instructional methods in a stimulating and nurturing environment that fosters maximum student achievement while promoting STEM education. Thus, allowing us to generate a large number of applicants who are interested in pursuing STEM based programs.
In our pursuit to offer a rigorous STEM based program AcadeMir Charter School East is committed to successfully implement a highly effective, deliberate and intentional STEM practices. Our program encompasses the allocation of an extended school day to successfully implement STEM into the school’s daily schedule. ACSE offers a weekly STEM Lab course, daily 30-minute STEM Block, school-wide STEM Integration across the curriculum, extracurricular enrichments to support and enhance STEM learning beyond the classroom, participation in student competitions, showcases and establish community partnerships that support and enhance our STEM program. Our goal is to challenge today’s digital learner through the infusion of higher-order thinking skills, use of a standard-driven intentional STEM integration so that our student grow and excel into critical thinkers, increase science literacy and enabling the next generation of innovators.
AcadeMir Charter School East uses state adopted and researched based curriculum infusing best practices so that students are engaged and challenged daily. The school’s curriculum is aligned to the Florida State Standards. The core instructional programs implement research-based strategies, innovations and activities that facilitate high levels of learning and achievement with a focus on mathematics and science for all students. ACSE offers students a STEM education that is active and focuses on a student-centered learning environment. Students engage in questioning, problem solving, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real life issues. In STEM education, teachers function as classroom facilitators. They guide students through the problem-solving process and plan projects that lead to mastery of content and STEM proficiency. STEM proficient students can answer complex questions, investigate global issues, and develop solutions for challenges and real-world problems while applying the rigor of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content in a seamless fashion. STEM proficient students are logical thinkers, effective communicators and are technologically, scientifically, and mathematically literate.
By focusing on the teaching of math and science, ACSE introduces students to the tactics of problem solving, developing in them a general attitude for the solution of problems and not just computational skills. The educational program at ACSE has been developed in accordance with Language Arts Florida B.E.S.T. Standards, Mathematics Florida Standards (MAFS), and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) Science. This educational program is driven by annual academic standards; integration of effective research-based strategies, grade level expectations, and the STEM 21st Century Framework for learning.

Unique to AcadeMir Charter School East

STEM Lab

AcadeMir Charter School East offers a STEM Lab as a special area course through a science elective class. As with other disciplines, instruction in science at ACSE begins with inquiry in order to develop real world applications. Students in K-5th grade will have the opportunity to attend a weekly class that will allow them to experiment by providing real-life opportunities as they access Project Lead the Way Model (PLTW) Launch program. Students will go through the Engineering Design Process Model and the Structure and Function of the Design Process. Student will have an opportunity to go through 4 different modules throughout the year. Each PLTW Launch module engages students in cross-disciplinary activities that spark a lifelong love of learning and build knowledge and skills in areas including computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. In addition, each module empowers students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and technological literacy that goes far beyond the basic knowledge to meet the challenges of the 21-century global economy.

STEM Block

At ACSE students will receive daily STEM instruction designated to make core subjects like English Language Arts, Math and Science relevant for students, and at the same time, foster creativity, curiosity and a passion for problem solving. STEM is about using math and science to solve real-world challenges and problems. This applied, project-based way of teaching and learning allows students to understand and appreciate the relevancy of their work to their own lives and the world around them. Once they grasp core concepts, students are able to choose a problem and use their own creativity and curiosity to research, design, test and improve a viable solution.
Robotics Program
ACSE will offer a rigorous robotics program after school three times a week. Robotics helps address our mission of providing our students a well-rounded education through academic rigor that emphasizes the demand for teaching science, technology, engineering and math in our school. As well as exemplifying technology directly by programming the robots, students also learn about science, engineering and math and get an understanding of how these subjects link together. This program will allow students to explore real-world scientific concepts through research, teamwork, construction, and imagination as students prepare for local and state competitions. The students in grades K-3 will utilize BricksForKids powered by Lego education © and 4-5th grade will utilize VEX IQ program.
Offering co-curricular after school enrichment programs that support what they are learning in school can help children to see that STEM is more than a class or assignment. Having activities that show real-life implication of STEM can pull together these ideas presented in school and help to show how they benefit our society and even our world. Students who are part of the Robotics team will compete at the district, county, state and national level. Children can see that what they are learning now is pertinent to their future and the future of the whole world, creating an interest often lacking when learning new concepts that do not seem to carry real-world application. Our Robotics, Clubs and academic enrichments are examples of STEM enrichment programs we will offer to students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.

Enrichment Programs

ACSE will offer an extensive extra-curricular enrichment program that will spark the interests of students and parents, saving parents time and effort searching for these programs outside of the school. The co-curricular program will support the goal of developing the whole child; these programs encompass clubs, sports and enrichment’s academies. ACSE will offer Robotics Club, National Elementary Honor Society Club, Student Government, SECME Club, Science Club, Art Club, Chess Club, Safety Patrols, TV Production-Broadcasting, and Newspaper Club. We offer and array of enrichment and sports activities such as Music Classes, Art, Dance, Cheerleading, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, Gymnastics, Rollerblading and Taekwondo. Lastly, we will offer Academic Enrichment’s to help maintain and enrich academic performance by offering Morning Homework Help, After-School Tutoring, FSA Enrichment Academy and Saturday Success Writing Academy.
The School is committed to continually meeting and exceeding high standards of student achievement for all students by providing a rigorous academic program founded on the Florida Standards and a strong STEM Enrichment Program which provides students the opportunity to participate in a problem-based atmosphere that implements critical thinking skills and reinforces Science, Technology, Math and Engineering skills needed to develop students into global thinkers and lifelong learners.
